There is at least one philosophical aspect to absolutely everything (for
the relativists among us, yes, I'm ABSOLUTELY sure) to every circumstance
and thing. "Really?", you say. Well, lets take something perfectly
ordinary, like a box.
As an example lets use the ezample of just a plain ole cardboard box (give
one to a Lord and it will be renamed "Mefisto's Scarlet Box of Flaming
Blades", or something equally colorful, in short order). The value of a
box lies in the emptiness inside of it. OOOOooOOooOo.... Common sense,
eh? Philosophy.
That stretched example aside, you also have a philosophy of game play.
You may not have formalized it with a manifesto in the style of the
UniBomber, but it screams in plain language to everyone you come in
contact with. Its evident in how you speak to other players, how you
respond to change (unexpected deaths in the game, and Lord morphs come to
mind), and the aura of your presence (roughly translated: Power-mudder,
socialite, pkiller, etc)
The Avatar community is SO large (see the average number of players in the
graph below for the last 24 hours), SO diverse, So complex, and SO
sophisticated; that eventually philosophical differences between players
bubble to the surface. Usually, we cele brate our differences,
occasionally they are startling or intensly funny.... And, sadly,
sometimes we allow our emotions to carry us into realms of inappropriate
behavior or simply exceed the bounds of good taste.
Okay. We're human (more or less). We are subject to mood swings and
reactions to circumstances that may bring out a dark side in our natures
and philosophys. No worries. Don't flog yourself if you transgress. Don't
swear off Avatar because your're too e mbarassed by a momentary lapse.
Don't make it worse by deciding to "go out like Elija" (obscure Biblical
reference to fiery chariot and whirlwind). I suggest that you stop and
breath hard for a few minutes without opening your mouth (metaphorically
speak ing). After the emotion and adrenaline drain away, it will be much
easier to see the bigger picture; to speak softly; to find common ground.

3. IMMortal Biography: Revenani (as told to Ukiah)
________________________________
Name:Revenani RL Name: Linda
Mud Age: Three years old Real Life Age: 31
Race:Drow Class: Warrior Current level: Demi-God
Real Life Interests:
At the moment, I'm really enjoying sleep. Sleep is good.
I have a nine-year-old daughter and a ten-month-old son, and they
think that sleep is only good if they themselves are doing it, which
is rare, because they don't like sleep if they're awake.
Advice To Players:
Note to the thoroughly addicted: If you fall asleep on your
keyboard, don't drool, it could short out the keyboard and you'll
waste precious time replacing it when you could have gotten that one
more level or blown up a few pieces of equipment trying to enchant
them. Also, try not to leave your dinner in the microwave...you'll
find it there in the morning when you go to nuke the coffee.
Where Does Your Name Come From:
A Revenant is one that comes back from death or all other
circumstances...rather like a Vampire or a Zombie. Knowing me and
knowing mudders...this is appropriate.
Additional comments:
Considering my habit for obsessive correction, proofreading is a
great job for me. Keeps me IAW and relatively out of trouble. Not
too many people argue over the spelling of "meadow" - Thieves,
however, whether it's Thieves' or Thieves's is highly contested...

4. The best run... by DrStrange
________________________________
One night long before I morphed I had the best run of my life. It was
just me and two of my good friends, Chuft and Belgarion. The three of us
had many "runs" under our belts, always pushing the edge, but always
having fun. The three of us knew each ot her like we knew ourselves. All
knew the other's limits, but always pushed that.
So I asked if the two of them wanted to run. Both said yeah and I grouped
them. Me, being a cleric, chuft being a warrior, and belgarion being a
mage, we had a well rounded group. I was the first tank. I had a good
set of tank gear and had a nice amou nt of hitpoints.
So we spelled up and the adventure began. At first we were just portal
hopping from one mob to the next. Started with Otto and friends, cleaned
that area, moved onto shadowkeep and cleaned part of that area, then onto
necromancers tower. We did this li ttle run over and over and over till
our spells went. Then came the fun part.
All of us had plenty of hp and mana left. I told you, we were an awsome
group. At this point, we had only been grouped for about thirty minutes,
and had earned about 4k experiance. Rather than going back and regening
and respelling I said, "lets push i t". So we did.
We definitly pushed it. I got down to 1k hp and I said, guys, we have to
stop. At that point we had earned about 7k exp. The last 3k without
spells! Chuft said hold on, and spammed us with changing. He said I
should change gear too. So I switched to hr/dr gear. I still lead the
group, we all had some mana, so we healed me up just a little.
We strived on, killing mob after mob after mob. We were relentless. All
of us played rescue tag for a couple mobs, then we got our only restore.
An hour and a half into the run, no spells for the last hour, and we got a
restore. Like any restore, it w asn't a big one. Just enough to let me
heal again.
Two hours into the run, we were flying. Mob after mob after mob was just
crumbling to our feet. All the while we were having a fun time with it.
A real life problem came up for all of us. Nature was yelling at us by
this time. We said, lets not regen . We just stood there, in the
necromancers tower, while irl all three of us ran down the hall to answer
nature. Within two ticks we were back to playing.
We pushed on. After 3 hours of one run, we were all down to 500 or less
hp, and less than 100 mana. Total run was 18k exp. Was definatly the
most memorable run of my mud life.

5. The Amazing Rebirth of the Lords
________________________________
The evening of November 6 was filled with excitement and revelries as the
much anticipated Lord Rebuild finally took place. After an impromptu
meeting with the Lords, Snikt ordered a reboot and, as the Lords of Avatar
relogged, they found themselves cleansed of all previous affects and stats,
updated, and rebuilt. Many commented that it felt like Christmas came
early as each logged on and reported to one another the change in their
stats. A loss of some mana, a gain of some hit points, and a change in
movements went without a hitch.
The IMM team sat back and enjoyed conversing with the Lords and Ladies as
the Lord channel came to life with reports on the overall improvement in
the statistics of the shiny new lords. Some were disappointed but, with
such a holiday atmosphere, soon lost their disappointed in their curiosity
of how their peers fared in the rebuild.
As the rebuild continued, the realm was brightened by the appearance of a
number of those who had been waiting in the wings to morph and join the
ranks of the Lords and Ladies. The chat channel was flooded with gratitude
for the restores bestowed upon all as new lords filled Thorn Center. The
ranks of the lords swelled, groups formed, and the Lord class once again
settled into peaceful coexistence as the stress of the preceding months
melted away and was replaced by the anticipation of a the new adventures
lying in wait.
The last few months were filled with trepidation and uncertainty as the
IMM team worked to bring about the Lord rebuild. Discussions, sometimes
verging on arguments, broke out but the Lord Class hung together as one,
supported one another through difficult moments, and now, with new hopes,
new stats, and new adventures.. are joining together to once again protect
the realm from the most dangerous of foes and guide those to follow toward
a bright new future in the wonderful land known as Avatar!
